Uncle Charlie

I wrote this poem for Uncle Charlie’s funeral, and I read it at the funeral where I think there were more tears than words that flowed that day.

Uncle Charlie fought so many battles on this earth the last battle he fought was Alzheimer’s.

In Memory of Charles Franc

If I could roll back the hands of time
Allowing memories to rush in like the sea
Oceans of pinks, greens, purples, and blues
Would paint the canvas beautifully,
There are not enough words to describe how you have touched my life
or what you have meant to me
You nurtured with kindness and embraced with love
infected with laughter and taught with gentleness
encouraged and supported along the way
more than a pal, a friend, an advisor
For if titles were measured by good deeds
You would be spectacular indeed
I love you, you were the greatest of all Uncles, Uncle Charlie

I will miss you deeply
Thank you for always reminding me
to see the beauty in colors blended
to find the art in the simplest of things
The lessons were not of art alone
rather to see the beauty
and differences in all and everything
For that, I thank you for painting my canvas so richly
