History Mysteries, The Astor

John Jacob Astor opened The Hotel Astor for his family on May 31, 1837. Designed by Isaiah Rogers, the Astor was built in Greek Revival Style and covered a massive four-block square. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the Astor was a haven for the community in 1888 during a blizzard. Many noted elite guests, from Abraham Lincoln to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, will grace the Astor. I wish to see and feel the pieces of history with my own eyes. Those incredible gems are often torn down and demolished without properly illustrating the stories. Each history mystery is a treasure to be explored and recorded for future generations to appreciate. It was the discovery of a postcard gem that Delores Herbert Hohnbaum sent to a friend that first gave me an appreciation for this architectural masterpiece. #historymysteries
