A glimmer of hope is what Kimberley gave me when my mother passed away suddenly, and my heart was ripped out of my chest. The only people I could think of that I wanted close to me were my children and my husband. My brain couldn’t comprehend the pain that I was experiencing, and now I had no living family members to speak of outside of my husband, Umair, and my children. I was floundering in the world. I have a brother and sisters but there is nothing that can replace a parent, once that is lost. My husband is a massive support as is the rest of my family, but anyone who has lost a mom, dad or both knows this anquish.
I’m a writer. I have always had that since my first poem about a fish to my mother, which she has in my scrapbook!! Pain and loss shattered and tore at my soul, and thoughts, chaotic thoughts, went through my mind. I knew she had stage IV kidney failure and a long laundry list of health conditions. But how was it physically conceivable to go from weeks (at worst) to months (at best) with the very best outcome. Hours was unfathomable to my brain! I just knew if I got mom home we would turn that corner and I could regain ground as I had always done or tread water for a while longer. The GI bleed the hospital did not see fit to correct or even attempt to correct, the transfusions with heart failure, stage IV kidney failure, afib, tachycardia, tachy-brachy, Adam Stokes and COPD l. Well the GI bleed tipped the deck out of my favor and I stood shattered hours later, was this some kind of horrible dream?
How could somebody randomly say “they would see what special accommodations could be made” only to rip it away from me? A glimmer of hope, that’s what I had.
I think the immigration system is broken. I am not unlike others waiting for spousal cases to be approved! I am not unlike fiancé cases and family cases waiting to be approved. I urge for a more efficient, effective and streamlined service platform. Give the officers reviewing cases the tools and technology to complete their casework swiftly.
More attention and care has to be paid to the people who are waiting in line genuinely rather than make special accommodations for people who cheated the system only to be granted their green card. These people are not waiting in the line with us, they bypassed the line coming into our country and they never lost connection to their family or were separated by miles, oceans and continents.
Pause and think on that for a minute. Reunified means or implies you were separated. Now, Umair and I take as many trips as we could possibly afford, but reunification means I’m sitting in the United States. My husband is waiting in Pakistan, bringing us together to stay together in our HOME in the US is reunification. That’s the reunification of families and there are so many couples and families waiting for to be reunified. My brother has been waiting … waiting for his fiancé visa to be approved. Illegally entering is cheating the system and sliding in under the radar and it’s cutting in line whether that’s observed or not. That’s not reunification. That’s, we’ll enable the cheaters and the liars to get away and then make them special accommodations, so here I am, the writer, and you can follow more of my stories @historymysteriesatthemuseum.com and Aforestofwords. blog. I plan to use my skills as a writer to bring awareness to the public. No, I don’t think I’m better than anybody else. No, I don’t think I need to jump in the line above or before anyone else, but when my mother died, I needed my husband. I still need my husband. I’m saying reunification and families should matter for all individuals! Not just the ones who successfully cheat the system. That’s all for my public service announcement today from one girl to the entire world who is missing her mom and wanting her husband to be by her side!
