According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, reunification is “the act of reuniting or the state of being reunited. It can also refer to bringing people or things together into a unit or coherent whole after a period of separation.” According to the same dictionary, it can also refer to countries or nations torn apart being reunited as reunification. The case of Germany would be one such example of a country’s reunification. Germany was merely the example the dictionary provided there are of course countless other examples of countries reunified.
“To bring together as a coherent whole after a period of separation, to unify.”
As a young girl in America, I was raised as a military brat. I had this profound sense of honor and pride for my country. Each time I heard the Star-Spangled Banner, said the pledge of allegiance, and listened to fireworks on the Fourth of July, I would say that it reunified a sense of pride in our country for myself and many others. There was never an act of separation per se, but I think those beliefs fundamentally strengthened our unity.
A delightful half of a peanut butter sandwich waiting to be reunited with the half of a jelly sandwich is childhood right of passage reunification
A delicious half of a peanut butter sandwich waiting to be reunited with the decadent half of a fluff sandwich is a fluffernutter reunification
A scrumptious half of a peanut butter sandwich waiting to be reunited with the half of a banana sandwich is peanut butter banana reunification
A toasted grilled cheese sandwich reunited with a warm and cozy cup of creamy tomato soup is a culinary reunification.
A wife or husband patiently waiting for their spouse to return from overseas or remote deployment is reunification. I would certainly not call two people enjoying the luxury of living together while illegally gaining access to the country as necessarily reunification; I would probably call it darn lucky! Darn lucky! But I don’t think we should be handing out kitchen passes to illegal acts; it kind of sets the precedent. One legal misstep opens the floodgates to a million more! And color me stupid or silly but I thought obeying the law was kind of a big deal. You can most likely chalk that up to my military upbringing. There simply are no shades of grey on this, but I’m going to remember this: if I ever get a speeding ticket, I was seeking illegal reunification of something I am not sure what because I’m kind of a rule follower! I don’t need my dad stepping down from heaven to tan my ass for illegal reunification.
